Satin Cast Satin Cast is a body of work that has been created specifically for Harcourt House in Edmonton, Alberta. A couple of years ago, Paul Freeman and I sat and talked about whether or not we intended to leave Edmonton upon our completion of grad school. Leaving would involve the pursuit of professorships and larger art communities, but both of us felt that Edmonton was the right place to be now. We both felt that there was an excellent opportunity to build a strong new collective of art activity in Edmonton, and that feeding one’s own community was valid and important. Satin cast is a grouping of portraits of artists meant to evoke the beauty and power of community and friendship, within the formal art-making context inspired by interesting developments in international figurative painting. -Carolyn Campbell |
