Fragz DaNielle’s experience with the human form have led her to consider concerns of gender representation and sexuality in the development of these little but rather complex drawings. Her drawings are based on different poses a model will take during the course of a drawing session. These images are tightly contained as women have been contained and restricted in societies. Linear patterns form transitional spaces that bridge one figurative element with another. The layers of lines and body elements defuse traditional codes by scrambling the expected visual syntax. Many of these patterns are worked into the drawings after the drawing sessions and, for the most part, this imagery is a contemplation of the constructed and fragmented nature of our lives. The female is thus re-presented less as a sexual object than a form in motion through time—ever changing, remoulding herself and destabilizing her space to be reborn as more than the sum of her parts. |
