Sydney LancasterI am fascinated by the peculiar human impulse to define and atomize things of great complexity: the contents of the natural world, thoughts and ideas, memories. The materials I use are integral to the exploration of these issues, and their sister-concepts, time, transience, and transformation. The re-contextualization of the disparate elements and objects I gather in each work opens up the possibility of creating new narratives – or of displacing old ones. It is my goal to generate new meanings and narratives, and provoke a reassessment of conventional assumptions regarding transience and the eternal, since much of human endeavor had been focused on negating or denying the one in favour of the other.
