Jermaine WunderlyThe artist uses a desired color to begin each painting and then only enough new color is added to produce a resonance. This body of work borrows from abstract expressionism and color-field painting by relying on random elements. The result is a suggestion of an image that is left barely recognizable in most instances to allow for individual interpretations. In most cases the image relates to a landscape if only in a surreal way reflecting the artist’s connection to nature from a very early age. The expanse of saturated color is designed to engulf the spectator in a total color experience and bring about a sense of peace and harmony. When emotions of the spectator can be involved, complex associations can be developed from the simplest image. The artist’s intent is to allow a serene simplistic image to resonate in the viewer’s inner core and produce a personal response. It is hoped that each interaction can provide a sense of spirit in each.
