Jaynus O’Donnell Aardvark to Army, Wales to Zoos This body of work created by Jaynus O’Donnell has grown from her fascination with the way we, as the consumers of visual information, decipher and interact with the images that we encounter in our daily lives. O’Donnell recycles familiar printed imagery to create these humorous and absurd collage scenarios, aiming to impede the passive image consumption that we all participate in. Tools such as books and photographs have been used throughout my life to supplement first hand experiences in my understanding of societies and cultures, including my own. …I was mostly taught to obediently consume images in a very literal way and not to question so-called factual visual sources. It is not my hope that the viewers’ interpretations align with my own. I am more interested in generating a visual experience that disrupts expectations – one that encourages more thorough investigation of visual information, especially of those images that explicitly educate to form beliefs and identity. -Jaynus O’Donnell |
