Upcoming Exhibitions
January 7 to February 13, 2010
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 7, 7–10pm
Chris Cooper
Every Dog Has Its Day
Cooper examines the role that dogs play in small, day to day events to reveal how we construct our landscape and how our landscape affects the way we live. The sculpted bronze animals Cooper creates are often weighed down by some sort of burden, whether it is a heavy glass helmet bolted around the neck or a rocket tied to their back. Through the emotions of the animal, Cooper aims to tap into a collective conscience that is continually in the process of coping and accommodating.
Rachel Hellner
Road Stories
Through a series of portraits, Hellner documents numerous road kill victims and consumer objects found on the sides of roads and highways. Within these drawings the artist addresses ideas of chance and luck as well as insensitivity and the cultural attitudes of a “throw away” society.
Artist Talk: Friday, January 8, 7pm
